Chancellor May Letter on 51�ԹϺ�� Regents Innovation Awards

Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following letter to faculty and staff today (Jan. 9).

Dear Colleagues:

The 51�ԹϺ�� Board of Regents is now inviting nominations for the 51�ԹϺ�� Regents Innovation Awards, a new systemwide program that recognizes exceptional innovations by 51�ԹϺ�� faculty and research scientists across the University’s ten campuses and three national laboratories.

Academic Senate and Federation 2025 Awardees

Presenting their top academic honors for 2025, the Academic Senate and Federation recognize and showcase faculty not just for their expertise, but also for their impact across campus, mentorship roles, excellence in teaching and overall public service.

Campus Serves Up Award-Winning Response to Cook Shortage

Roger Thompson clapped his hands together. “You’ve got two hours to open. Let’s get to it.”

“Yes, Chef!” Andrea Rivera replied. She turned to a class visitor and whispered: “That’s so they know we heard them, and it’s fun too.”

And with that, Rivera and five other food service workers left their classroom space at dining tables in Latitude and headed toward the dining facility’s kitchen on their way to becoming cooks at 51�ԹϺ�� Davis.

Social Justice Awards Presented

51�ԹϺ�� Davis’ Hispanic-Serving Institution Community Council, an undergraduate student and a Ph.D. candidate are among the recipients of Social Justice Awards from the university’s 12th annual Equity Summit, held May 30.

The Equity Summit is organized by the 51�ԹϺ�� Davis-sponsored Sacramento Area Youth Speaks, or SAYS, and sponsored by Undergraduate Admissions; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and the School of Education.
