Continuity Planning Gains Momentum on Campus

Imagine the collective sigh of relief on campus after hundreds of students safely evacuate a smoky residence hall. But with that facility out of commission, where would the university house the residents?

Or maybe a barn was lost. How would dozens of large animals, important to teaching and research, be transported to a temporary facility?

Campus units are addressing these and other scenarios as the work of continuity planning — for continuing or resuming mission-essential functions following a disruption — gains new momentum.

New Plans Seek to Streamline Building Evacuations

51�ԹϺ�� Davis Department Safety Coordinators, or DSCs, have worked together with Emergency Management to update the process and documentation for implementing building evacuation plans, establishing a repository of newly approved Emergency Action Plans.

Emergency Action Plans, or EAPs, contain procedures that are to be followed during emergencies, outlining actions that will promote safe evacuation from buildings.

He took up his post in October and since then has been forming relationships with departments across the campus — reviewing and preparing action plans with fire, police, 51�ԹϺ�� Davis Health and more.

Starting Today: Fire and Police Training at Haring Hall

51�ԹϺ�� Davis fire and police personnel will train for three days this week — starting today (Aug. 29) — on responding to an active shooter incident, to be staged in and around the unoccupied northeast wing of Haring Hall at the corner of Storer Mall and California Avenue.
