Highlights of regent actions from last month's meeting include:
- West Village — Approved the first phase: 312 single-family homes and town homes for faculty and staff, apartment housing for up to 1,980 students, and a village square surrounded by ground-floor commercial space with housing above. The project site is west of Highway 113 and between Hutchison Drive on the south and Russell Boulevard on the north.
- King Hall (School of Law) — Approved the design and environmental report for the addition of 18,800 gross square feet and the renovation of about 14,300 gross square feet, at a cost of $21.8 million.
- Stockton Boulevard Research Center — For this project at the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, the regents approved the preliminary plans, working drawings and construction for Phase 2. The project calls for the remodeling of about 27,800 gross square feet for a stem call lab, at a cost of $22.3 million.
- Judy Sakaki — Approved her appointment as vice president for Student Affairs at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏOP, effective Jan. 1. She is leaving her position as 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis vice chancellor for Student Affairs.
- General counsel — Appointed Charles Robinson as general counsel and vice president for legal affairs, Office of the President, effective Jan. 1. He replaces James Holst, who retired as general counsel in June. He will receive an annual salary of $400,000, along with the standard senior management retirement and benefits package.
- 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Irvine School of Law — Author-ized this new institution, California's first public law school in more than 40 years. The first students are expected to enroll in 2009. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ already operates law schools on the Davis, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏLA and Berkeley campuses, as well as Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
