Chancellor’s Residence Undergoing 30-Year Maintenance and Improvements

51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis is undertaking a series of routine maintenance, energy efficiency and security improvements at the Chancellor's Residence as part of the university's ongoing stewardship of campus facilities and long-term infrastructure investments. These repairs and upgrades are consistent with similar maintenance and infrastructure projects occurring across the university to preserve campus assets, improve operational efficiency and sustainability, as well as enhance safety.

The residence has not undergone a comprehensive renovation since it was first occupied in 1997.

Work began in mid-June 2026 and is expected to be completed by mid-September 2026. The project is funded through the university's established facilities and maintenance resources, consistent with standard campus practices, and has been reviewed and approved by the University of California Office of the President.

The project includes:

  • Replacing a malfunctioning heating and cooling system that is in disrepair;
  • Completing electrical upgrades needed to transition from a natural gas-powered HVAC system to a modern, all-electric system, supporting the university's broader sustainability, decarbonization and energy efficiency goals;
  • Repairing extensive dry rot and addressing other deferred maintenance needs; and
  • Enhancing existing security features.

In addition to serving as the home of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis chancellor and family, the Chancellor's Residence is an official university facility that regularly hosts campus and community events throughout the year. These events include gatherings with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, community leaders, elected officials and other university partners.

After 30 years, the university needs to bring the residence into good condition so that it can continue to safely, efficiently and responsibly serve both its residential and official university functions for years to come.
