ROTC ROLLERCOASTER

Richard Washabaugh, a junior in history, does push-ups for an Army ROTC class in early October. Enrollment in college ROTC programs nationwide has dropped about 16 percent since the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. At 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis, which has the largest ROTC program in California, participation decreased to about 70 students last spring, down from 90 in spring 2003. However, enrollment rebounded this fall to about 80 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis students, Capt. Jason Hioco said. Another 40 students come from California State University, Sacramento, which has an Air Force but not an Army program. Photo: Karin Higgins/51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis
