Federally Funded Research Saved a Life

Lychee was a 4-month-old cat when he was diagnosed with Feline Infection Peritonitis (FIP), a disease once considered almost always fatal in cats. His family enrolled him in a federally funded 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis clinical trial testing a new cellular therapy. Within a week, he began eating again. He started playing. The kitten they feared losing came back to life.

“We were able to give Lychee a second chance.â€

Today, Lychee is thriving. The same research that helped treat his disease is informing broader work on coronavirus-related conditions, including potential applications for people living with long COVID. Federally funded research at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Davis does more than treat animals. It strengthens the science that protects both animal and human health.
